Lift Hands to Holiness

$50.00

This “poster” comes out of the CoVid19 crisis of 2020. Suddenly, our traditional blessing for washing the hands, which literally says, “Blessed are You, Adonai our God, who commanded us regarding the lifting of the hands” took on a whole new meaning. My friend, Matt Utterback, requested an esthetic reminder for us all to do our loving and caring of each other by reminding us to wash our hands! I began to paint this with the two handled cup….but water alone does not vanquish the virus, so I adapted by making an image with soap. And suddenly, our traditional blessing meant so much more! If you are an astute Hebrew reader, you will notice I left out a vav in the word Baruch. To be honest, it was NOT intentional, but let us drash it: Some of our blessing, which we have taken for granted: to be able to meet with friends, to hug each other, to be relatively distant from the Angel of Death…..some of our blessings have been diminished this year….and let’s say that is why the blessing is missing its vav. Please feel free to reproduce this image. But if you want a really nice poster, here it is on fine art paper, 10.5 x 16”
