This excerpt is taken from the longer quotation from morning prayers:
“These are the precepts the fruit of which a person enjoys in this world, but the principal remains intact for him in the world to come: honoring father and mother, acts of kindness, early attendance at the house of study, morning and evening, hospitality to guests, visiting the sick, providing for the bride, escorting the dead, absorption in prayer, bringing peace between one human being and another, and between partners, yet the study of Torah is equivalent to them all.”
The pomegranate, that most luscious, beautiful fruit, is the satisfaction we experience in this world, studying Torah. It is the sharpener of awareness, it is God’s gift to us, so that we may understand the significance of our lives, and the consequences of our actions.
