This is the moment when Abraham sees the three angels who visit to tell him that Sarah will miraculously bear a child in her old age. The opulence pictured describes Abraham's abundant state of mind rather than his actual dwelling in the desert. We are behind Abraham, in the inner recesses of his tent, watching him, as though through a lattice.
